First released by Freda Payne in 1970, “Band Of Gold” is to this day one of the most recognised of the post Motown soul songs written by Holland–Dozier–Holland. It was actually published under a pseudonym (Edythe Wayne,and Ron Dunbar) as there was a legal dispute going on at the time. The song has ben covered many times, however it has rarely been sung better than when performed by Fred Payne.
