Al Jolson Swanee From 1920

Al Jolson was a highly acclaimed American singer, however he was not American born originating from Lithuania. He is also considered by many to be the first Jewish man to become a famous entertainment star in the USA. Although Swanee is almost always associated with him it was actually written by George Gershwin and Irving Caesar for the 1919 New York City Revue Demi-Tasse. It remains one of the few well remembered songs of the era.

  1. I was attracted to this song when I saw an episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and the lead character Larry David sung it at a karaoke night. The real version is full of character and a real delight to listen to
